Pre-Cana

Pre-Marital preparation:

Because marriage is for the lifetime beyond your wedding day, pre-marital preparation is mandatory and not optional. Those who intend to celebrate their wedding liturgy at St. Gerard may satisfy their pre-parital preparation requiremnt in several ways:

a) Locally, by participation in our Parish Pre-Cana. This will last three weeks, and is held on the same day or night each week. It is led by married couples.

b) At a regional parish center, by participation in Pre-Cana sponsored by the Diocese of Rockville Centre. This program is similar in content to the In-Parish Pre-Cana.

c) At a Long Island retreat house, by participating in an Engaged Encounter Weekend from a Friday evening until early Sunday afternoon. It includes meals and overnight accommodations. Advance registration of six to eight months in advance is required.

d) For couples of different faith traditions, there also is an Interfaith Pre-Cana that is available twice a year. Advance registration is required. We highly recommend choice (a), our In-Parish Pre-Cana program. Register for it as soon as possible with Howie and Marge Roberts (631) 473-3614.

If you choose one of the other three programs, please contact the Diocese of Rockville Centre at (516) 678-5800, extension 223. This is the Office of Laity and Family. When you reach the secretary, tell her you want to make a Pre-Cana reservation; please do so as early as possible in preparation for marriage. NOTE: Because of the great number of couples getting married, many of these programs are booked eight months to one year in advance. The priest or deacon assisting you at St. Gerard will answer any Pre-Cana questions you may have.
