Living Your Strengths for Growth and Service

Evangelization / Seeding

Christian Formation Catechist - Share your faith and life with small classes of children while making a vital contribution to our Parish community. Meet one hour weekly during the liturgical year reviewing lessons from levels 2 through 8: prepare children for sacraments. Do you find it easy to share your faith?

King's Kid Bible School - Parishioners lead 3 to 7 year olds during the 11 am Mass on Sunday in prayer, song, and story-telling. This is a delightful way to be involved with our youngest members of St. Gerard.

Parish Baptism Sponsor - Give your smile and welsome to families coming for Baptism. No theology required, just friendliness and personal interest in a family and their new child. Two or three times a year on Wednesday evenings for an hour, and one hour at the Baptism Mass summarizes your time commitment.

Prayer Team - Have a desire to pray? Make a commitment to pray 15 minutes each day for the community of St. Gerard Majella. Join our team and meet monthly on a Monday evening to pray together.

Pre-Cana Ministry - Prepare engaged couples to celebrate the sacrament of marriage. Married couples meet with engaged couples prior to the wedding day and guide them through a program especially formulated for them.

RCIA for Children - Catechist sponsors meet Sunday mornings with children who are not baptized or are from other religions to share faith, reflect on the Scriptures, and to prepare for sacramental initiation into the Roman Catholic Church.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - Meet Sunday after 11 am Mass to share your life and faith. Offer support and guidance for those persons whom God has called to join the Church. Sponsors will journey with an individual throughout the entire process. As you share your faith, you will become a resource of faith to others.

Vacation Bible School - Join a week-long Bible program for elementary school students. Share your love for children and enjoy an experience you will always treasure.

Community / Tending

50 + Club- If you are 50 + years, you are invited to join others for fun and community.

Activities-

Alleluia Cafe - If you love to socialize and meet people- share coffee, cake and conversation once a month after each weekend Mass. Bake a cake or cookies; make coffee and seasonal centerpieces for the serving table.

Athletic Program - Help coach, umpire and pitch in to assist in the administration of our baseball / softball sports program.

Cake Baker for the Ministry of Consolation - You don't need to be a gourmet chef! All baked goods are appreciated for the grieving relatives and friends of a deceased member of our Parish community.

Cake Deliverer for the Ministry of Consolation - Bring acake and a funeral booklet to the grieving relatives of a community member. This is an irreplaceable and touching contribution to someone in need.

Cemetery Service for the Ministry of Consolation - Preside by leading the families in prayer at the cemetrty.

Christmas Festival - You don't have to be a "craft person" to help with projects. Many willing instructors are ready to help you. Share your skills and ideas as gift wrappers, cooks, and bakers. Creative advertising and bookeeping talents are also needed. Join in the community spirit of joy.

Companion Listener for the Dying - Be present to the dying person, and provide support and guidance for the family before and after death.

Employment Ministry - Assist individuals by providing direct services and referrals for employment.

Eucharist Minister for Funeral Liturgy - Assist with the distribution of the Eucharist to people at funeral liturgies. In addition, you will assist the priest with preparing the altar for the celebration of the Eucharist at funerals.

Eucharistic Minister for the Dying (Hospital, Nursing Home, or At Home) - Provide the Eucharist to the dying person and their families when needed.

Homebound Pray-ers - St. Gerard invites all homebound parishioners who want to offer prayer for dying members of our St. Gerard Faith Community.

Knights of Columbus Council 7006 - Men are welcome to join this international and charitable organization. Monthly meetings are supplemented with a variety of charitable events and family social activities.

Proclaimer of God's Word at Funeral Liturgy -Communicate God's Word to the Grieving relatives and friends of the deceased at the funeral home or at a Mass.

Scout Troop 454 - Regular meetings and special trips develop character in Scouting experience, leading to a possible Eagle Scout achievement.

Small Church Community - The Small Church Communities are Catholic Christians who share their faith experience of God and the Scriptures with each other. Come and find out how this unique and rewarding interaction will add to your own life. Meet every two weeks, share faith, build community.

St. Gerard Babysitters - Watch young children for approximately one and a half hours while parents attend a meeting here at the Parish. Love children? This ministry may be just the one for you! Be available the 2nd and 4th Sunday from 2-3pm.

St. Gerrard Builders - Share your gifts within the Parish as electricians, plumbers, engineers, architects, floral designers, painters, tile masons and landscapers. Whatever your skills, you are welcome anytime to lend a hand to this ministry.

Strength Group - Discover your strengths and then get ready.....to embark on an adventure sure to change your life.

Telephone Follow-up Ministers - Contact parishioners by phone (from a list provided) to ask for specific information or to supply needed information.

Wake Presider for the Ministry of Consolation - Lead the wake service and offer the consoling presence of out St. Gerard's Faith Community at the local funeral hones. This conforting gesture is a profound show of support for the grieving family. Do you have the gift of mercy?

Liturgy / Thanking

Altar Servers - Young people ages 9 and up can serve at our Parish liturgies. You may be surprised how many of our young members wish to have their turn as Altar Server!

Eucharistic Ministers - Express your love in Christ by ministering the Eucharist at Saturday evening, Sunday and daily Masses.

Liturgy of the Word with Children - Share your desire to communicate God's Word to God's Children. Be a lector, presider, musician or timekeeper during 9am Mass on Sunday.

Lector; Proclaimer of God's Word - Prepare to study and proclaim the Word of God in the Scriptures at Mass. Give voice to God's Spirit speaking to us.

Liturgical Presider - Lend your voice and lead the community in prayer and worship at liturgical celebrations.

Minister of Hospitality; Greeter - Extend a warm welcome to all who enter our doors. Arrive 15 minutes early to distribute hymnals. Spread the joy by welcoming each person with a greeting and a smile.

Minister of Hospitality; Usher - Extend a helping hand to assist in the practical details of hospitality at weekend Mass and on holidays. Assist people to their seats, collect the offerings, guide the communion procession, and prepare for emergencies.

Music Ministry; Adult Choir - Sing at the 11am Mass each Sunday and at special liturgical celebrations. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings.

Music Ministry; Contemporary Ensemble - Sing at the 5pm Mass on Saturday evenings and at special liturgical celebrations. Add your instrumental talents as well.

Music Ministry; Youth Choir - Sing at the 9am Mass each Sunday and at special liturgical celebrations. Invite your children to share their joy!

Pastoral Care of the Sick- Bring Communion to Catholics in nursing homes or to the ill living at home. This ministry is a wonderful opportunity to bring Jesus to others.

Service / Harvesting

Decorating Committee - Have fun putting up our wreaths and other seasonal decorations. Help with roping for the Advent and Christmas season and with setting up our Nativity. Meet for 3 hours the Sunday before Advent.

Flower Ministry Meet Tuesday mornings here at the Parish to arrange floral arrangements for the residents of Woodhaven Adult Home. If you love working with flowers, this is a great way to demonstrate your creativity.

Food Pantry - Help us get organized with the set up and maintenance of our food items. In addition, you will be packing bags of food for those requireing assistance. Do you have the gift of mercy?

Garden Club - Show off your green thumb! Help plant, weed, dig, prune and beautify the landscape around the Parish. Share gardening tasks and keep our flower beds looking clean all year long.

St. Gerard Altar Guild - Help prepare and maintain the flowers at the altar for the weekend worship and special seasonal holidays.

St. Gerard Majella Guild - Assist the presider and our liturgical assembly in the blessing of expectant parents and those who want to conceive children. This is a beautiful way of expressing your joy and love in Christ with the future families of our parish community. Serve at the Mass of your choice, the first weekend of the month.

St. Gerard Post Office - Join other parishioners at the Parish Center to help with labeling, inserting, and preparing parish mailings. You will laugh and share conversation while making sure we communicate in a timely way to all our parishioners. Meet after weekly 9am Mass when parish mailings need to go out.

Stewardship Supper - Come lend a hand with the preparation, serving and clean up of our weekly Thursday evening meal to needy folks in the community. There is no special talent needed here - your company is appreciated the most. This is one time when the saying "The More, The Merrier" could not be more appropriate!

Teen Program with Adult Leaders - Meet at the Parish Center weekly to facilitate a small group of teens using discussion materials provided. Be available for retreats, camping trips, and projects. Help our teens feel at home in the parish.

Thrift Shop - Assist Customers, sort donated merchandise, price items to be sold and maintain the appearance of the shop. We are open 10am to 2 pm Monday through Friday.

YAC - Youth Activities Committee - Adult leaders and young adults (ages 10 to 18) help each other to grow in their passion of the Scriptures through creative expression.
