History

Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School began in 1938 as Infant Jesus Catholic School. It was staffed by the Daughters of Wisdom and served students in 1st - 8th grades. In 1992 the school regionalized and became known as Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School. The school is supported by four parishes, namely, Infant Jesus, St. James, St. Gerard Majella, and St. Louis de Montfort. It now serves approximately 220 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Curriculum

The New York State Learning Standards, as well as guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Rockville Centre are applided to all curriculum areas. Subjects include Reading and English Language Srta, Math, Science, Social Studies, Technology, Spanish, Art, Musci, Physical Education, and Religion. Religion, however, is not just a subject to be covered; it permeates the whole curriculum and every activity at O.L.O.W. Students are involved in many service projects, and several special religious activities are conducted throughout the year.


Faculty

Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School is blessed with a loving faculty of certified teachers. Our teachers are dedicated to the spiritual and academic success of all students. In addition to the classroom teachers, there is also a resource teacher, Music teacher, Art teacher, Spanish teacher, Information Specialist, Physical education teacher, School Psychologist, five Teacher Assistants, and a School Nurse on staff.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra-curricular programs at O.L.O.W. encourage a variety of interests. Some of the activities include Odyssey of the Mind (State Champs in 1999), Drams Club, Student Council, Chorus, National Junior Honor Society, Rosary Prayer Groups, Daisies, Brownies, and Girl Scouts. Our sports program includes, Baseball, Soccer, girls and boys Basketball, and Bowling.

Facilities

Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School has a state of the art Science Lab where classes convene to conduct experiments; an Information Center for information research and retrieval; a hot lunch program; computer networked classrooms connceted to the world wide web; and access to Infant Jesus Parish Center which can be used as an auditorium/gym.

Goals

Our Lady of Wisdom Regional School endeavors to:

  • Provide opportunities for the ongoing formation of young Christians invoted to live fully their baptisimal call;
  • Emphasize the vision of each child as a member of a larger faith community;
  • Challenge our students so that they may grow and expand academically, socially and spiritually;
  • Stimulate learning through a challenging, current curriculum with Christ as our Focus;
  • Encourage each child to recognize the gifts within themselves, enabling them to realize their own potentialities;
  • Prepare our students to serve God, family and our fellow man.
